Heiloo is set in lovely green surroundings. In the area, you’ll find beautiful woods and nature reserves where you can enjoy walking and cycling. A lovely way to unwind completely and explore the area.

Cycling & walking
The surrounding area is ideal for lovely cycle rides. You can cycle along quiet roads and cycle paths towards the dunes, the beach, Egmond or Bergen. There are also plenty of beautiful walking routes through the woods, the polders and towards the coast.

Shops & Groceries
In the centre of Heiloo, you’ll find a variety of shops, specialist stores and cosy spots for a cup of coffee. For your daily shopping, there are several supermarkets in the area.

Restaurants 
Heiloo and the surrounding villages offer plenty of choice for a cosy lunch, drinks or dinner. From a relaxed terrace to an atmospheric restaurant: there’s something for everyone. There are also plenty of cosy terraces where you can settle down for a drink, a coffee or lunch.

Stroll through the old streets and discover historic buildings, courtyards and canals. The compact city centre is perfect for exploring on foot. Take the time to venture off the well-known shopping streets; that’s where you’ll find Alkmaar’s most charming spots.

The famous Cheese Market
No visit to Alkmaar is complete without a visit to the famous Cheese Market on Waagplein. This centuries-old cheese-trading ritual is a unique spectacle and takes place on Friday mornings during the season, attracting visitors from all over the world.

Alkmaar from the water
One of the best ways to experience Alkmaar is from the water. Take a boat tour through the canals and see the city from a different perspective. You’ll glide past historic façades, bridges and special spots. Prefer to take to the water yourself? In Alkmaar, there are plenty of options for hiring a boat. Bring along friends or family, cruise through the canals and enjoy the lively atmosphere. A sunny afternoon on the water is highly recommended!

Enjoy the Beach

Egmond aan Zee is the perfect place to enjoy the beach, the sea, the dunes and the relaxed atmosphere of the North Holland coast. Whether you want to get some fresh air, sunbathe, go for a walk, cycle or simply enjoy a bite to eat and a drink: Egmond aan Zee has it all.

Beach & sea
The wide sandy beach is, of course, the main attraction. Find a quiet spot on the sand, soak up the sun or take a long stroll along the seashore. On warm days, there’s nothing better than dipping your toes in the water and then relaxing on the beach.

Sunbathing & relaxing
Bring a towel, find a lovely spot and enjoy a relaxing day by the sea. With a bit of luck, you’ll have a stunning view of the North Sea and can watch the sun slowly disappear behind the horizon.

Dunes
The beautiful dune area begins right behind the beach. The dunes around Egmond are ideal for walks and cycle rides. The mix of dunes, marram grass and views across the coast makes every walk special.

Walking
Go for a brisk walk through the dunes or opt for a leisurely stroll along the beach. It’s particularly lovely and peaceful early in the day or towards evening. And of course, a breath of fresh air and the sound of the waves are all part of the experience!
